Your Work Matters to God, Part 37 of 45

IDEA: Christians need to think seriously about the job they take if they are doing the will of God on the job.

PURPOSE: To help people evaluate the kind of work that they do.

Did you ever have a "call" to ministry? What do we mean by "a call"?

Do you believe that what you're doing today is really doing God's will? Why?

I. Every Christian needs to consider God's call in their lives.

Does that mean that you necessarily consider becoming a pastor or a missionary?

It does mean that you need to think seriously about how you invest your life.

The apostle Paul wrote to slaves in the Roman Empire and said, "Do the will of God in your work." It's always important to ask two things about a biblical passage:

In what ways are we LIKE the people the apostle Paul is addressing?

In what ways do we DIFFER from the people he is addressing?

II. How does a worker today differ from a slave in the first century?

The choices of a slave were limited. Ours may be much more varied. So what?

We have a responsibility to think about the work we do. Where we have a choice, we have a responsibility to choose wisely.

How do you go about making the choice for career or for new employment opportunities?

Is the amount of money you make a legitimate criterion? Is it the only one?
