What Jesus Said about Being Good Enough - Anger, Lust, Marriage, Divorce, Part 33 of 34

TEXT: "Furthermore it has been said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery" (Matthew 5:31-32).

IDEA: Christians in a democracy have a responsibility toward the government and its laws.

PURPOSE: To help listeners consider what they can do and should not do to make their influence felt in our society.

What are some of the political issues that involve sex and marriage that Christians have been involved in during recent years?

I. Should Christians and churches be engaged in these struggles?

Do you think the early church tried to influence the Roman government?

How do we resemble or differ from the churches in the first century?

II. Granted that we should be involved in some political struggles, what questions do we ask?

What kind of issues should we be involved in? Why?

Should we plead our case in the secular society by quoting the Bible? Why? Why not?

Are there dangers in being involved as Christians in influencing a political agenda?

III. Are there ways beyond political legislation that Christians can use to influence their society for good?
