By Faith... the Judges, Part 42 of 62

TEXT: "What more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets" (Hebrews 11:32).

IDEA: Sin, when it is finished, binds and blinds and grinds.

PURPOSE: To help listeners realize that sin has its consequences.

The book of James describes temptation and its effects in our lives: “Sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.”

The story of Samson was often used by evangelists of earlier days to describe the consequences of sin. They focused on verse 21.

I. The text itself seemed to yield to the sermon outline:

“Then the Philistines took Samson and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison.”

Sin blinds us.

Sin binds us.

Sin grinds us.

II. How do you think they filled it in?

III. Do you think the outline made for an effective sermon?
