By Faith... Samuel, Part 9 of 10

TEXT: "What more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets" (Hebrews 11:32).

IDEA: God plus one person forms a majority.

PURPOSE: To help listeners appreciate what God can do through one person dedicated to him.

What do you know about Dwight L. Moody?

At a turning point in his life, when he was in London, he heard Charles Spurgeon say, “The world has yet to see what God can do through one person totally committed to him.”

Moody said, “By the grace of God, I will be that man.”

I. Do you think that Dwight L. Moody in the 19th century was the first person to pray that prayer?

In the Old Testament a man named Samuel must have made that same commitment. He was determined that by the grace and power of God to make a difference.

He did it in a corrupt society. In the midst of all of the wickedness, he worked for a revival and a love for God and for reform of the people’s conduct.

He had an itinerant ministry, traveling throughout Israel calling the people away from idolatry and back to God. It is possible that his dedication cost him his family.

II. Do you think that God would honor a similar commitment today?

What would happen if one person in your church made that commitment?

What would happen if one person in your community made that commitment?

What would happen if one person in your business made that commitment?

Would you be willing to make that commitment? If not, why not?
